The Alexander Hamilton Book Club presents author and public historian Nancy Spannaus’s new publication, “From Subject to Citizen: What Americans Need to Know about Their Revolution,” as the Fall 2025 featured book. Spannaus takes readers through three stages of the struggle: the growing revolt against the British Empire, the drafting of the Declaration, and the fight for the Constitution. Alexander Hamilton was present throughout these stages of the nation’s birth, shaping both the fight for independence and the framework of government that followed. By challenging myths and examining the real ideas and conflicts of the Revolution, Spannaus shows how Americans made the critical shift from subjects to citizens.
