Constitution House – Marker Unveiling Ceremony

April 18 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm EDT

Unveiling a historic marker installation honoring Gouverneur Morris and the “Constitution House”

Northeast corner of Market and Third Street, Philadelphia, PA

Join The Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society on April 18 at 12:30 in Philadelphia for the installation of a historic marker honoring Gouverneur Morris and the “Constitution House,” the boarding house where Morris stayed during the Constitutional Convention alongside Alexander Hamilton (Publius) and Elbridge Gerry (the Federal Farmer). This landmark commemorates Miss Dalley’s home, a central hub for the leaders who shaped the nation.

While residing there in September of 1787, Gouverneur Morris, the “Penman of the Constitution,” composed the Preamble to the Constitution. During and after the Revolutionary War, Miss Dalley’s boarding house was frequented by delegates to Congress, the Constitutional Convention, and the First Federal Congress. Beyond providing lodging, she entertained at least 15 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 12 signers of the Constitution, the Marquis de Lafayette, Baron von Steuben, diplomats, governors, and future Presidents George Washington, John Adams, and James Madison.

Nicole Scholet, President of the AHA Society will also offer some remarks.

This marker is the result of the invaluable work of Adam Levinson.
