Talk: 7 – 8 pm by Luke Thompson PhD on “Hamilton at War”

From the fighting in and around Manhattan in the early days of the Revolution, to the desperate night combat at Yorktown that helped bring it to a close, Hamilton came to know war up close and first-hand. As a member of Washington’s staff he came to appreciate how the war effort depended on Washington’s success playing at diplomacy, politics, and leadership. Finally, in the wake of the Neutrality Proclamation, he would tangle directly with his old collaborator, James Madison, over the question of war against Britain. So how did Hamilton think about war? Was he, as some have suggested, a precursor to Clausewitz? Or was he a product of his times?

Luke Thompson is a political consultant, commentator, and lecturer. He co-hosts the podcast Constitutionally Speaking and his writing has appeared in National Review, The Spectator, The Washington Examiner, USA Today, and other publications. He holds a PhD in political science from Yale and lives with his wife and daughter in Baltimore.

The cost of the Hamilton Birthday Event is $75 per person.
