George Tonkin, former lead ranger of both Hamilton Grange NM and Federal Hall NM, will lead a free walking tour of Lower Manhattan, covering many of the locations Hamilton knew well when he lived in New York City.
The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, rain or shine. Meeting point provided upon registration. Max. 15 people. To register, please send an email to: sergio.villavicencio@theahasociety.org
10:30 am – Presentation on The Great New York Fire of 1776: A Lost Story of the American Revolution by Benjamin L. Carp
Benjamin L. Carp, whose book was featured in the 2023 Virtual Hamilton Book Club, is back to present in person for the first time at Hamilton Grange! Learn more about the fascinating story of the Great Fire of 1776 and why its origins remained a mystery even after the British investigated it in 1776 and 1783. Uncovering stories of espionage, terror, and radicalism, Benjamin L. Carp paints a vivid picture of the chaos, passions, and unresolved tragedies that define a historical moment we usually associate with “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
11:30 am – “Alexander Hamilton: A Personal Look” by Nicole Scholet
In this talk, AHA Society President Nicole Scholet will explore the intimate life of Alexander Hamilton, with a focus on his childhood in the Caribbean and his family. Many talks on the life of Alexander Hamilton have focused on his accomplishments and public service; to celebrate his birthday in the only house Hamilton ever built, join the AHA Society for a more intimate look into Hamilton’s world in the 18th century.
Join the AHA Society, Trinity Church, Museum of American Finance, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and others in the traditional commemoration of Alexander Hamilton’s passing with a graveside blessing organized by Trinity Church; remarks by author Benjamin Carp; Presentation of Colors by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; wreath laid by the Museum of American Finance; and the National Anthem and Taps performed by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Band Coordinator, Flotilla Staff Officer Louis DiLeo.
