Portraits of Alexander Hamilton: A Celebration

January 11, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Thank you for joining the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society and partners for the commemoration of Alexander Hamilton’s birthday on January 11, 2022.  Events include the unveiling of a special exhibition on Alexander Hamilton’s portraits in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol and a Hamilton Scholars Virtual Roundtable with an impressive line-up of prominent Hamilton experts via Zoom.

Join us for a special exhibition and commemoration on Alexander Hamilton’s birthday in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol. Visitors will have the opportunity to see and learn about the variety of Hamilton artworks, learn about Hamilton, and commemorate his birthday. This is very likely the first time ever that this many Hamilton portraits are on view together, side-by-side.

Items include a portrait of Alexander Hamilton by 19th century American artist Martin Johnson Heade and a life-size bust of Hamilton, finely copied from Ceracchi’s bust of Hamilton, which is regarded as one of the most accurate representations of Hamilton’s likeness and from which many of Hamilton’s portraits are based. The event will also feature a presentation about Alexander Hamilton led by the Utah chapter of The Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, and a display of a collection of books about Alexander Hamilton. This event will be coinciding with the January 2022 production of the Broadway musical HAMILTON in Salt Lake City.

This event is organized and hosted by: HamiltonPortraits.org and the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, with participation from the Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement.
