“The Haven of Eternal Repose and Felicity”: The Story of Alexander Hamilton’s Religion

January 11 @ 7:00 pm EST

This presentation, by Madi Frick, will tell the story of Alexander Hamilton’s religious beliefs. It will be presented in a story-like way and survey what we know about his faith over the course of his life. It will emphasize the importance of understanding what Hamilton believed when writing our interpretations of him. Madi seeks to shed light on an aspect of his life that is overlooked at times. She desires to make the topic engaging and accessible to the public.

Madi Frick graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. In 2024, she received the Caroline Mays Brevard Award for the most outstanding undergraduate research paper on Florida History from the Florida Historical Society for her paper about a local ghost town titled, “A Forgotten People, A Forgotten Place: The Story of Rye.” She now works as a museum educator at a maritime museum. In this role she does outreach and programming, coordinates volunteers, manages the museum’s memberships, plans social media, and much more! She works with all ages and enjoys connecting people to their heritage.

She previously served as a longtime volunteer for her local agricultural museum, where she assisted with creating educational programming, collections, and other general museum projects. Madi was also their collections intern for a semester while completing her degree. In addition, she volunteered at her local historical records library and helped them catalog and research historic land abstracts.

Madi enjoys public speaking and frequently gives lectures on Alexander Hamilton, the American Revolution, the American Founding, and local history to her public library system as a volunteer. She has had a longtime interest in the life and times of Alexander Hamilton and enjoys researching and writing about him in her free time. She specifically likes researching his legal career, his writings, and his religion.
