This presentation examines the war of words between the Reverend Samuel Seabury, writing under the pseudonym of “A. W. Farmer” (A Westchester Farmer), and the young Alexander Hamilton, a recent immigrant who quickly adopted the patriots’ cause.

Though his name is less widely known today, Gouverneur Morris was a leading Founding Father who made many major contributions to the young American republic. In this presentation, Timothy R. Schantz will give a brief review of Gouverneur Morris, his life and service to our nation, most notably at the Constitutional Convention and in his years as Minister Plenipotentiary to France during its Revolution and ensuing Terror, and his connection to Alexander Hamilton and his family. Schantz will then review the historiography and examine reasons why Gouverneur Morris may have often been neglected in his critical role as “penman of the Constitution.”

There is no shortage of biographies about Alexander Hamilton. His extensive papers have been scrutinized by generations of historians. Yet, no biographer has claimed that Elizabeth Hamilton ever visited Philadelphia during the Constitutional Convention. Newly revealed evidence suggests that Eliza in fact travelled to Philadelphia in June of 1787. This discovery is significant for several reasons, including the fact that Alexander presented the “Hamilton Plan” during an all-day speech at the Constitutional Convention on June 18. What role might the wives have played in Philadelphia? It is only fitting that Eliza’s story should be fully uncovered.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of "Hamilton: An American Musical" the Hamilton Grange and the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society are excited to host Marti Londal for a talk entitled "Hamilton: The Man vs The Musical."

Join Madi Frick to learn the story of Alexander Hamilton’s role in advocating for and forming the United States Constitution. She will start the presentation with a brief overview of Hamilton’s life up through the American Revolution to help contextualize his life and his viewpoints regarding government. Then, the talk will cover the time between the American Revolution and the Constitutional Convention, detailing the role and failures of the Articles of Confederation. Next, Madi will recount Hamilton’s time at the Constitutional Convention, as well as his advocacy for the U.S. Constitution through the Federalist Papers and at the New York Ratifying Convention. She will then talk about Hamilton’s vital part in shaping the early American Republic, and his lasting impact on the United States Government.

This year, America marks the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the Revolutionary War. As part of the commemorations, the AHA Society will examine Alexander Hamilton’s role in this conflict.
